The Red Dawg Band
The Red Dawg Band consists of some of the most talented musicians Texas has to offer. All are full time touring professional musicians, songwriters, and producers.
Instrumentation is dependent on the type of show required. The Band performs as a duo, trio, 4, 5 or 6 piece band. Instrumentation is: Guitars (Acoustic and Electric), Bass Guitar (Acoustic or Electric), Drums, Fiddle, Keyboards, and horns.
Styles: Country, Rock, Blues, Folk, Americana, Swing
The Band is made up of several great players. The content of the band varies depending on the show. In addition to Danny Britt here are some of the key players in The Red Dawg Band:
Marvin Dykhuis - Singer Songwriter, Musician, Producer
Marvin is originally from Racine Wisconsin. There he started his musical career playing clubs and colleges throughout the midwest with blues bands. Marvin and The Dogs “Live At Georges” and Folk groups Paffrath and Dykhuis (Everybody Knows, Listen).
In 1986 he relocated to Austin, Texas and soon became a part of the rich music scene. In 1988 he began working with Singer/Songwriter Tish Hinojosa and has been her right hand man, playing on all of her recordings as well as producing and writing with her.
Marvin spent 8 years playing Wednesday night’s "Sitting and Singing for Supper" with the Threadgill Troubadours (Co-fronting the band) along side the late Champ Hood. He has been around the Globe with Ms. Hinojosa and other Texas based groups playing guitars, mandolins, banjos, etc.
Marvin has produced and played and sang on many records for Texas Singer/songwriters and groups offering a unique sound to their music. His chomeleanesque aproach is always welcome in the studio doing movie soundtracks or performing live. From Blues to Bluegrass He’s there with an interesting twist.
Chip Dolan - Singer Songwriter, Musician
I grew up in Northern New Jersey, playing keyboards for the "Blue Emerald Band" until I hitchhiked to Austin, TX in September of 1982, joining a southern rock band "Crystal Image" and "Hotcakes", a party-dance band. By 1991, I had sold my soul to the piano bar Gods, then in 1994 I joined Tish Hinojosa for her Destiny's Gate tour where I met Marvin Dykhuis and immediately began stealing his licks... a habit I continue to this day.
Over the next 20 years I"ve been a sideman with Austin based songwriters.. including but not limited to: Bruce and Charlie Robison, Kelly Willis, Radney Foster, Jimmy Lafave, Shelley King, Slaid Cleaves, Sara HIckman....well.you get the gist.
A brief stint with Raul Malo and the Mavericks got me started on the path to Grouchy Like Riley with Marvin and Danny Britt. In 2006 I put out "Right Now" my solo recording.
I'm currently touring with Sam Baker, Ronny Cox, and Geg Trooper and always with The Grouchy Guys...working on my attitude.
